NHBC Guarantee
NHBC, (the National House-Building Council), is the standard setting body and leading warranty and insurance provider for new and newly converted homes in the UK. Their role is to work with us, the house-builder to provide risk management services that help raise the standards of new homes and provide consumer protection to new home buyers.
There are approximately 20,500 house builders and developers on NHBC's Register (known as registered builders or registered developers), who agree to comply with our Rules and Standards when building new homes.
More than 80% of new homes built in the UK each year are registered with NHBC and benefit from the 10-year warranty and insurance policy called 'Buildmark'. Around 1.7 million homeowners are currently covered by Buildmark policies, and over the past 40 years, NHBC has protected more than 30% of existing homes in the UK.
Key services provided by the NHBC:
- Registering builders and developers agree to comply with NHBC's Rules and Standards.
- Set and maintain construction standards for new homes.
- Inspect the homes at key stages of new home construction.
- Providing building control services in England and Wales.
- Providing 'Buildmark', the most comprehensive warranty and insurance policy for new homes in the UK.
- The provision of technical and engineering advice, training, health and safety, environmental and energy-rating services for new homes.
